David Meyler: Pardew headbutt in past but Hull City up for Newcastle challenge

No Alan Pardew this time, but Meyler says Hull focused on victory in same tense fixture that last season saw midfielder clash with Newcastle’s then manager

• Pardew loses control at KC Stadium and headbutts Meyler

Being knocked out of the FA Cup could, in a strange way, galvanise Hull City’s battle for Premier League survival. With no game last weekend, they retreated to the warmth of Portugal, away from the cold Yorkshire air, in search of a tonic. The mission was to boost team spirit in the hope that it will see them arrest a run of three wins in 22 games.


On Saturday Newcastle, themselves in something of a rut, travel to the KC Stadium in a game which both sides are under pressure to win. It was this fixture last season where David Meyler was infamously confronted by the then Newcastle manager, Alan Pardew, who headbutted the midfielder and incurred a seven-match ban.
